Trade: Commanders Send Brian Robinson Jr. to the 49ers for 2026 6th-Rounder

The Commanders are trades RB Brian Robinson Jr. to the 49ers for a 2026 sixth-round pick, clearing the way for Austin Ekeler, Jacory Croskey-Merritt, and Bill Merritt while San Francisco reloads behind Christian McCaffrey.

The Commanders are officially moving on. In a late-summer shake-up, Washington has traded running back Brian Robinson Jr. to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2026 sixth-round draft pick, according to league insiders.

Washington Says Bye 👠

Robinson has been the team’s starting back for three straight seasons, but Washington is clearly ready for a reset. With Austin Ekeler bringing veteran energy, Jacory Croskey-Merritt pushing for carries, and even buzz building around Bill Merritt, the Commanders’ backfield suddenly feels fresh, young, and versatile.

Robinson’s recent absences from practice and a preseason game only added to speculation. By completing this deal, Washington clears space for its new identity and takes some weight off its salary cap in the process.

San Francisco Gets Stronger ✨

The 49ers’ running back depth has been a concern, with multiple injuries leaving Christian McCaffrey carrying the load. Enter Robinson: reliable, physical, and coming off a season with 799 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns.

For a team already built to contend, adding Robinson feels like slipping on the perfect pair of heels to complete the outfit. Affordable, tough, and playoff-tested…he’s the kind of depth piece San Francisco has been missing.

A Legacy in D.C. 🖤

Drafted in 2022, Robinson overcame unimaginable adversity including surviving a shooting before his rookie debut to become one of Washington’s most consistent offensive players. He leaves the Commanders with three straight 700+ yard rushing seasons and 20 total touchdowns on his résumé.
