SUSPENDED: 49ers WR Demarcus Robinson to Miss First 3 Games of 2025 NFL Season

San Francisco’s season just got a tougher start. Demarcus Robinson (#5) has been suspended for the first three games after violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.

What Happened

  • Robinson’s suspension comes from a DUI arrest in November 2024, where he was allegedly driving over 100 mph and showed signs of impairment.
  • In July, he pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge and was sentenced to probation, a fine, and mandatory alcohol-education programs (Reuters, SF Chronicle).
  • The NFL handed down the three-game suspension and while it’s being appealed, Kyle Shanahan says the team is preparing to play without him (Niners Nation).

Games He’ll Miss

  • Week 1 vs. Seahawks
  • Week 2 at Saints
  • Week 3 vs. Cardinals

If nothing changes, Robinson’s first chance to suit up will be Week 4 vs. the Jaguars (Reuters).

WR Room Problems

The 49ers are already dealing with a banged-up receiver group:

  • Brandon Aiyuk (knee) isn’t expected back Week 1.
  • Jauan Jennings is sidelined with a calf injury.
  • Depth guys like Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing are also fighting injuries.
That leaves rookie Ricky Pearsall as one of the few healthy options heading into September (SF Chronicle, Niners Nation).

Fantasy Football Impact 📊

Robinson was a sneaky late-round stash in deeper leagues, especially with all the injuries in San Francisco’s WR room. But with a three-game suspension, he’s undraftable in standard 10–12 team leagues unless you’ve got a deep bench or IR spot.

  • Recommendation: Skip him on draft day. Instead, watch waivers where he could be a free pickup by Week 2 or 3 if the 49ers offense starts rolling.
  • Upside: With Aiyuk and Jennings uncertain, Robinson has a real shot at meaningful snaps when he returns.
  • Dynasty Players: Worth holding if you already roster him, but he profiles more as a bye-week flex than a steady starter.

👀 Who benefits instead?

  • Ricky Pearsall could see a big bump in early-season targets.
  • George Kittle might be leaned on heavily as Brock Purdy’s most reliable weapon.
  • Don’t sleep on a potential early-season spike from Christian McCaffrey in the passing game while the WR room is thin.

Why It Matters

Robinson’s absence adds even more pressure on Brock Purdy and the 49ers’ offense to start hot in 2025. Fans will be watching closely to see who steps up in a wideout room running on fumes.

🔥 Question for y’all: With Robinson out, who do you think becomes the 49ers’ go-to guy early this season?
